The Elkton Police Department (EPD) is a progressive, full-service agency committed to excellence in policing and service to the Elkton
community. The Patrol Division is the “backbone” of the Elkton Police Department. It is comprised of four squads, which work a rotating
twelve-hour schedule to provide continuous twenty-four-hour coverage to the citizens of Elkton. A Sergeant and a Corporal are available
to the squad for guidance and support. Each squad has at least one officer who is a trained police cyclist, and adjusts their regular
duty schedules to participate in this important component of community policing.
Every officer is a qualified radar operator,
Preliminary Breath Test operator, and a First Responder. Uniformed patrol officers in the Elkton Police Department handle a variety
of calls for service, ranging from neighborhood complaints to burglaries and violent crimes. They are the first responding officer
on every incident brought to the attention of the police department and they are trained and prepared to handle every situation imaginable.
EPD officers handle approximately 20,000 calls per year, resulting in over 1000 arrests, including persons arrested
for Driving While Intoxicated and drug violations. The Patrol Division consists of officers specially trained as accident re-constructionists,
firearms instructors, field training officers, child safety seat technicians, ASP and self-defense instructors, and Drug Abuse Resistance
Education (D.A.R.E.) officers.
